Sasha

I photographed my other daughter, Isobel in the leaves sort of like this in the same peach onesie (sp?) 6 years ago in our backyard. This year it rained so much and the leaves did not have as much color. I also waited too long, and it was 33 degrees when I took Sasha outside - WAY too cold for a baby, but I am glad I did it because it snowed the next day and the leaves were all gone afterwards... It was shot in the middle of the day, which is my least favorite lighting conditions, for shadows are harsh and it is hard to get good skin tones. Overall, I am happy with this shot mostly because it shows her in this basket, which was given to me by CPFA teachers as a baby shower gift. Sasha slept in this basket a lot when she as 1st born, and it was cute to carry her around in it. I also like this pic because overall, it has a nice feeling of "color". I have a bunch of orange-y pics lately ...I'll post some more soon.

In October we had a few sunny warm days and my family and I headed off to Cape May. This shot was taken in The Villas at the bay. This is a very special place for me, fo it is where I let my father's ashes go into the sea after he died two years ago. I chose this place, for this is where he lived most of the last happier days of his life with his girlfriend June, before he was diagnosed with cancer. June still lives here and invites us to visit her often, which means a great deal to me and my family.

My daughter Isobel is always running and jumping, and is very proud of her skills. I wanted to capture her in mid-air to "show off" to her how high she could jump! So, I purposely manually set my camera to a high shutter of s1000 (from s125). In order for the exposure to work, I changed my ISO to 100 (from 400 ISO) and my aperture to f8 (from f22).

PFA STUDENTS!?....Why do you think I would have to change those 2 other controls?

Write me back a comment of your answer anyone!

Aperture (+ Shutter) !!!

I see you all are working with Aperture - mucho importante!...you old Darkroom kids better have a clue already about this...I KNOW you do Erik S.! Here is a recent pic of mine showing evidence of both aperture and focus....the only part really in focus is my older daughter Isobel's eyes. My younger daughter was moving a bit and she is blurred, for it was very low light conditions and I had to use a long shutter (I told Isobel to "freeze" so that she would not blur).

This was taken at f5.6 and s30.

NICU July 2008

I am going to add photos to this blog in chronological order of when Sasha Violet was born until today to help me edit my photos for some books I want to make for my family and to see if I consider any of them "art" photos for my portfolio.

These 1st two photos are Sasha in the NICU at Chester County Hospital.
She was one month early and had problems with her oxygen levels and jaundice, which is why there are tubes and a bright light on her. It was very hard to be separated from her the 1st 4 days of her life. She was the biggest baby in the NICU at about 7 lbs. - most of the other babies were 2-4 pounds, some smaller...
